Mama Loco is a Mexican eatery in Auckland, New Zealand. The client, Joy lab (previously Barworks) is Auckland’s leading hospitality group. The result was an exciting and playful look that went on to win a Silver Pin at the New Zealand Best Design Awards.
The Garden Shed is situated in the heart of Mt Eden Village in Auckland, New Zealand. The local Bistro is themed as the name suggests - as a ‘garden shed’, including tools on the walls, terracotta pots on the tables and spades as the beer taps and door handles. My brief was to create a look and feel for this community Bistro that was inviting and accessible to all. The design work included the logo, menu, exterior signage as well as other marketing collateral.
The Garden Shed went on to be one of the most successful gastro pubs in Mt Eden.
Red Leap Theatre is a boutique theatre company, who are based in Auckland but have toured shows nationally and internationally. I was initially engaged to design their company logo, which was to reflect their creativity, beautiful handcrafted sets and physical-theatre (dance) focus.
I did additional work for them on Dust Pilgrim - a theatre production inspired by the works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, which premiered in Auckland in 2016. My role was to create marketing material including online and print posters, programme and post cards to promote the show.
I did further work in a similar capacity for Red Leap on other productions including Paper Sky and The Arrival.
A French cafe, restaurant and patisserie, La Fourchette is owned by a French chef and his kiwi wife, situated by the sea in St Heliers, Auckland. The design brief for the interior space was clean and classic with a nod to the south of France, so I wanted to create an identity that encompassed all these things but could also be a bit playful. I created a full identity suite, including the logo and brand graphics, which I then translated into menus, vouchers, packaging for the patisserie, and interior and exterior signage.
Finger Food With Bite! Little Wolf is a boutique catering company that specialises in finger food for both corporate events and personal celebrations. The owner of Little Wolf wanted a name and identity that stood apart form the competitors and reflected the creative menus and food presentation. I came up with the name, look and feel, website and designed promotional material.
Moving to a new modern space, Alpers Dental wanted an identity that was a dramatic departure from their old look and feel. The main target audience was young school children (and their parents) so the look had to feel fresh and fun.
I came on board and worked closely with the interior designer to make sure the identity and the spaces worked cohesively together. From wall graphics, directional interior and exterior signage to information brochures and other communications.
Alpers won a Resene Paint interior award.
Ultimate Charters is a fishing charter business that has created bespoke fishing experiences operating in and around the Waitemata harbour.
A change of ownership called for a fresh and modern new look (bearing in mind their regular and loyal costumers) a brand that would not only work well on the fleet of boats but on other touch points including the website, social media and uniforms.
An asian themed cocktail bar in Mt Eden Village in Auckland, New Zealand. Wu is a figurative lady who demands attention in the back courtyard of this bar - she is young, confident and knows what she wants - just like the millennial target market.
The identity and communications for this bar had to be equally smart and engaging, translated onto the menus, chopstick/taco packaging, uniforms and signage.
Situated in Auckland’s CBD, the Albion is a beautiful English-inspired pub in one of Auckland’s historic buildings. The identity and collateral were to celebrate the buildings English heritage but done in a modern graphic way.
I chose to give the graphic story a punk pop feel, which was translated onto interior walls, exterior banners and menu covers.
Lightpath is a boutique education consultancy based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. My brief was to create a logo and full suite of assets to be applied on everything from business cards, brochures, powerpoint templates and websites to interior office signage.
Jellicoe and Craddock are two bodies of water that surround the Whangaparaoa Peninsular where this local bistro is situated.
JAC’s is another Joylab establishment. I was engaged to come up with a name that reflected and embraced the local area and to then create an identity that would work with the interior but also become a brand that the locals would be proud of and would have enduring longevity in the area. JAC’s to this day remains an eatery of choice for the locals and holiday makers that visit the area.
Fringe Society is a homeware brand based in Dubai. The products are high end and beautifully crafted. The client wanted these attributes to be brought to life in the logo, which would be used in different formats - including online, as labels for the products and in several different print situations.
My client All3Media is a London-based television production and distribution company.
In some cases before the programmes have been completed and the imagery is available a marketing keyart design will be required to be created to attract investors. Here are some examples of drama and documentary titles where the imagery has either not been available or the quality is poor, so I have created conceptual designs to represent the shows.
Regatta is a Joylab fine-dining Bistro based in Takapuna, Auckland. Being situated right by the sea, the branding had to be fresh, classy and approachable to attract a well-heeled crowd who wanted casual, sea front fine-dining.
Similar to other Joylab briefs, my role was to come up with the name, logo and brand look and feel, and then translate it onto to various touch points such as menus, signage and other interior graphics.
CAKE is one of the world’s leading kids entertainment companies, specialising in production and distribution.
I was originally briefed to work on their many programme brochures and programme catalogues, that they used at the different market trade events - most importantly the Cannes TV Festival MIPCOM.
CAKE then briefed me to design them a new identity. Their original logo had an illustration of a cake which they were initially reluctant to move away from, but I managed to convince them to give CAKE a modern look that would would work on the many different platforms they were using.
